Community of practice

Uniting the local realm with the regional realm

Community of Practice

The regional Community of Practice (CoP) in Latin America for sustainable urban mobility issues will have an innovative approach uniting the local level, where competition and technical capacity are usually lacking, and the national level which has the funds and facilitates exchange between the two levels. This way the aim is to move forward with the transition of Latin American cities towards sustainable and low-carbon mobility. The objectives of the CoP are the following:

  • Contribute to the transition of national and local governments in Latin America towards sustainable modes of mobility with low or zero carbon emissions
  • Build capacity and cooperation between national and local governments at the regional level
  • Exchange experiences with NUMPs, SUMPs, and pilot projects (including projects implemented under the EUROCLIMA+ framework)
  • Contribute to the goals of the 2030 agenda and the NDCs

The CoP will focus on four specific topics of central importance for the realisation of sustainable urban mobility in the region: Technical expertise on each of the topics will be offered by the main CoP partners:

  • NUMPs and SUMPs: GIZ and AFD through the MobiliseYourCity Alliance
  • Financing: GIZ and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)
  • Electromobility: UN Environment

In addition to offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices among decision makers and regional and international experts on the aforementioned issues, the CoP will provide a range of services, including a web page, webinars, training workshops, events, document bank, and groups of experts, among others.

The CoP will cooperate with other knowledge platforms already established in the region and at a global level to take advantage of synergies in the promotion of sustainable, low-carbon urban mobility.
