Climate action depends on everyone. The time to act is now. From December 2 to 13, 2019 in Santiago, Chile.

June 30, 2019, Brussels, Belgium. “This is a Conference of the Parties (COP) for Latin America and the Caribbean, where we will be initiating a change of focus towards implementation and for the first time we will have a dedicated space in which Latin American countries will be able to show the rest of the world what we are promoting as a country and as a region. And it is precisely the EUROCLIMA+ programme that has come to provide us with several of these exchange spaces”, said María Carolina Urmeneta, head of the Office of Climate Change in Chile’s Ministry of the Environment.

EUROCLIMA+, the European Union’s flagship cooperation programme with Latin America on the subject of climate change, will have a pavilion at COP25 within the area dedicated to institutional and government pavilions. The main objective of the pavilion will be to provide a space for debate, the exchange of experiences, practices, challenges and solutions that the Latin American partner countries of the Programme are promoting in order to accelerate climate action.

“Generally, the representatives of the 18 EUROCLIMA+ partner countries are promoting the proposal to have a pavilion because we are convinced that the European Union is currently one of the main strategic partners for our region in the field of climate change”, stressed. Andrea Meza, Director of Climate Change in Costa Rica’s Ministry of Environment and Energy.

From December 2 to 13, in the EUROCLIMA+ pavilion, the plan is to hold about 40 events, which will include presentations, discussions and debates regarding the 50 projects that are being carried out in the region with the support of the Programme. Latin American academia, specialised institutions, NGOs, related programmes of the European Union, as well as the EUROCLIMA+ implementing agencies will also share the scopes, results and achievements of their activities in the region.

In addition to the area for parallel events that will be held in the EUROCLIMA+ pavilion, there will also be an open space for the projection of audio-visuals, virtual interaction, a space for interviews, and connections with people related to the Programme for remote sharing with visitors to the pavilion.

There will also be meeting rooms dedicated to facilitating encounters with high-level authorities of the partner countries and European Union representatives.

About COP25

Venue: Santiago de Chile Bicentennial City Park.

Its excellent location, connectivity and size make it an ideal place to host the COP25. An average daily visitation of 25,000 attendees is expected.

The challenge in this COP is to achieve a transition towards an increase in action that is perceived by the citizenry. Climate change is a reality today, not in 50 years hence.
