The climate emergency in Latin America and the Caribbean

The environmental impact of the prevailing development style imperils the well-being, and in some cases the survival, of much of humanity. It is one of the great challenges of the present, for it puts at risk the world’s common resources: the atmosphere, the oceans, the poles and biodiversity.

The climate is altering to the point where the ranges of sustainable variability in temperature and precipitation are being exceeded, and the composition of the atmosphere is changing, threatening all living beings on land and in the sea. The evidence on global warming is unequivocal. One of the main causes of this phenomenon is the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases produced by human activities, including the burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use
