Five selected projects

Projects funded through AECID:

  • Information, governance and action to reduce the risk of droughts in Peru and Bolivia in a context of climate change. Leading entity: National Meteorology and Hydrology Service(SENAMHI). Countries involved: Bolivia and Peru
  • Strengthening of national and regional systems for monitoring and managing the risks of drought and floods in a context of climate change and desertification in the Andean countries. Leading entity:  International Centre for the Investigation of the El Niño Phenomenon (CIIFEN). Countries involved: Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
  • Increased Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction due to Floods and Drought and Promotion of Resilience in Central America. Leading entity: Central American Commission for Environment and Development, CCAD-SICA. Countries involved: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
  • Bi-national project to reduce the vulnerability of the population and their livelihoods. Leading entity: Government of Piura. Countries involved: Ecuador and Peru.

 

Projects funded through AFD:

  • Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation to the effects of Climate Change against the dangers of floods and droughts in north-central Cuba affected by Hurricane Irma. Leading entity: ONU-Cuba. Country involved: Cuba.

Potential beneficiaries

The projects approved under this component will have the objective of achieving substantial disaster risk reductions (related to droughts and floods) and they will contribute to the objectives and priorities for action indicated in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, mainly strengthening the capacity for governance and the resilience of societies. They will also pay particular attention to the needs expressed by the countries in their NDCs (or other national policies and plans for climate change).
