Objective

To lay the foundations that, with the reinvention of the international system of human rights, a system of planetary human responsibilities should emerge in the context of the global ecological crisis. Such aspects should be considered in the proposal for a Global Pact for the Environment.

Presentation

Deeply exploring the role of human rights in climate action is essential, considering the emergence of environmental, climate, nature and future generations' rights - and the recognition of our planetary responsibilities - in order to promote their valuation and integration in the design of policies and decision making, at regional and global levels.

Toward this end, we will explore how the holistic ethics of the ancient wisdom of Latin America and Andean America, expressed in a narrative of their own -the "stewardship of the Earth"- contributes to: 1. The conformation of new human and non-human rights; 2. The reinvention of the contents of global policies for sustainability and climate adaptation, and the repositioning of the principle of intergenerational equity; 3. The evolution of the proposal for an innovative governance mechanism that audits the fulfilment of our universal responsibilities, particularly with future generations.
