Objective
The side event will allow:
- Sharing how certain countries face the challenges involved in the prevention and management of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena.
- Presenting the initiatives supported by the EUROCLIMA+ programme and, in particular, to learn about the added value of the coordination work of the three Ibero-American networks (CIMHET, CODIA, RIOCC).
- Presenting the state of the art on the project "Generation of regionalised climate change scenarios for Central America" (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama) supported by EUROCLIMA+ with the participation of the meteorological services of the 6 countries, mobilising experts from AEMET and WMO.
Presentation
The prevention and management of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena requires adequate climate data and information on current and future climate change scenarios. This is essential for hydrological planning and climate change adaptation measures. The Ibero-American networks CIMHET, CODIA and RIOCC, with support from the cooperation agencies AECID and FIIAPP, have organised intersectoral workshops that have made it possible to identify key actions to be developed at the regional level and to pave the way for building bridges between sectors.
In this context, EUROCLIMA+ has accompanied the implementation of the project "Generation of regionalised climate change scenarios in Central America", the results of which will be presented and the web viewer developed. This cooperation action is emblematic as it shows the value of cooperation between Latin America and Europe, favouring the bi-regional exchange of knowledge and tools.
