Objective

This evento will explain the main advances and challenges in the implementation of NDCs in Latin America and the Caribbean through the presentation of three regional studies, which constitute a reference framework on NDC implementation in the region. In addition, we will learn about the experiences of Ecuador and Paraguay through the voice of their protagonists.

Presentation

2020 will be a key year for climate action, as countries have been called upon to increase the ambition of their climate commitments and to orient the development of their societies towards low-carbon and climate-resilient economies, in pursuit of the objective of the Paris Agreement and in response to the urgent call made by the IPCC in 2018 with its Special Report: Global Warming 1.5°C. This is particularly relevant for Latin America, one of the regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. LEDS LAC (with support from IDB and UNDP), ECLAC, and GIZ together with Fundación Avina and ECLAC - in all three cases with support from EUROCLIMA+ - have developed regional reference studies on NDC implementation in the region. In this side event we will learn about the findings of these studies and listen to the specific experience of two countries: Ecuador and Paraguay.
