Objective

To share practical experiences of actions and investments to adapt and improve the resilience of the energy systems against climate change.

Presentation

Several regional changes in climate are assessed to occur with global warming up to 1.5°, including rise in extreme temperatures, increases in frequency, intensity and/or amount of heavy precipitation and an increase in intensity or frequency of droughts. These impacts will be intensified if the temperature rises 2°C or more. This means that in addition to raising countries’ mitigation ambition, adaptation capabilities are required.

To achieve sustainable development, we must take into consideration these effects, and the energy sector plays a key role. According to international experience, impacts are manifested from the provision of energy resources, the generation infrastructure, the transport of energy (electricity and fuels) up to the final use, the availability of water for hydroelectric generation, affecting transmission lines and fuel transport systems.

In the framework of the Energy Day lead by the Chilean Presidency this session will examine strategies and best practices to build climate resilient energy systems.
