Objective

To present regional approaches for the development of public policies based on scientific knowledge related to weather phenomena and water resources.

Presentation

Climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean represents an economic, social, distributive and innovation challenge, but also a great opportunity for the region to move towards more sustainable and inclusive development. At the event, each of the Regional Commissions of the United Nations Secretariat will make a presentation on the link between knowledge and public policy, emphasising issues such as rising sea levels, the dumping of pollutants into rivers and seas, and the effects of water stress. There will be high-level officials from the Regional Commissions, who will give an overview of the interaction between knowledge and policies for the management of challenges related to weather phenomena and water resources.
