Objective

To present the importance of the social cost of carbon in public investment in LAC and to share experiences among countries on the use of the social cost of carbon as a criterion in the evaluation of public investment projects and how this can contribute to moving towards lower-carbon development styles.

Presentation

Public investment through different channels can help boost economic growth while also influencing the style of development in countries. ECLAC has been working under the EUROCLIMA+ Programme framework on the regional Social Carbon Cost (Spanish acronym PSC) initiative, in which the National Public Investment Systems (Spanish acronym SNIP) of Latin America participate. This initiative seeks to promote the use of incentives that orient public investment towards cleaner models in Latin American countries. In this context, this event will allow sharing of experiences among countries on the use of the social cost of carbon as a criterion in the evaluation of projects for public investment and how it contributes to the countries' progress towards lower carbon development styles. Senior-level panellists will present country experiences.
